System requirements

Strate is a desktop application available in beta on two systems:

  • macOS on Macs with Apple Silicon.
  • Windows x64.

Macs with Intel processors are not supported. Both versions share the same interface and engine.

The Rust engine is built into the app: no Python installation is required.

Databento replay has been tested on Windows; validation of live data and trading on Windows is ongoing.

Installing Strate

Download the version for your system from your customer account, under Downloads.

Then open the downloaded file and follow your system’s installation steps.

Strate runs on one device at a time.

Your license

Access to Strate relies on a signed license key. It sets its expiry date and your permissions: the platform and, depending on your account, trading.

The key can be verified offline. Live data and trading, however, require a connection to market services.

Connecting Rithmic

Live data and trading use your own Rithmic connection, which you configure in the app.

Rithmic access and market data fees are not included in the Strate license: they depend on your provider and your account.

Rithmic/Apex trading is available subject to your license and account permissions.

Strate will never ask for your Rithmic or Apex credentials by email, by message or on this website.

Building a replay with Databento

Strate builds replay sessions on your computer from your Databento MBO files, in .mbo.dbn.zst format.

  • One day or several consecutive days.
  • Up to ten files per build.
  • The order book is rebuilt: StrateDOM and order book tools work in replay.
  • Built sessions are kept so you can reopen them.

The instrument is set by the resulting session: a file may contain several contracts, and the session Strate builds determines the product shown.

Databento data is not supplied with Strate: you use your own files.

Is market data included?

No. Live data and tick replay use your Rithmic connection, and replay with order book depth uses your own Databento MBO files. Data and market service fees are separate from the Strate license.

Transaction-based aggregations, such as footprint or volume bars, require available tick history.

Chart types and aggregations

  • Candlesticks, OHLC bars, line, step line and footprint.
  • Aggregation by seconds, minutes, hours, days and weeks; range, volume, Renko and delta bars.
  • Custom intervals, zoom, pan, last-price tracking, recentering and scale settings.

Transaction-based aggregation requires available tick history.

Organizing your workspace

  • Tabs, split views and detachable windows, each with independent settings.
  • Saved workspaces, settings templates and drawings stored per instrument.
  • Light and dark themes; custom colors, candles, grids and backgrounds.
  • Custom keyboard shortcuts, French and English interface, and a choice of display time zone.

Your workspaces, settings and drawings are stored on your computer.

Reading the StrateDOM heatmap

StrateDOM shows historical order book depth as a heatmap, with trades overlaid as buy and sell bubbles.

  • Buy and sell trade bubbles with custom aggregation, density, thresholds, size and colors.
  • Exposure adjusted to the visible window, with contrast settings.
  • On hover: date, time, aggressor side, volume, price and grouped price levels.
  • Large passive orders, executed volume and bid/ask imbalance.

The heatmap is built from order book snapshots, not from every individual event.

The DOM window

A separate DOM window for a vertical view of the order book.

Order execution from the vertical DOM is not available yet: orders are placed from the chart panel.

Order book tools require available depth: live, depending on your permissions, or in Databento replay.

Setting up the footprint

  • Four cell displays: volume + delta, bid × ask, delta only and percentage delta.
  • Bid/ask imbalances, adjustable thresholds and handling of zero values on the opposite side.
  • POC by volume or absolute delta.
  • Custom colors, contrast, borders, text and candle outlines.

Footprint and StrateDOM are distinct modes that you can arrange in separate views.

Volume profiles

  • Session profile to locate volume distribution by price.
  • Volume profile tool for a selected area of the chart.
  • TPO / Market Profile: letters by period, point of control and value area.
  • 3D time profile: stacked successive profiles and the POC ridge.

The 3D profile shows the shape and evolution of the distribution. Use the standard profile to read a precise price level.

Finding and managing indicators

Strate offers more than 50 tools and indicators covering volume, order flow, microstructure, volatility and market structure.

  • Search, categories, favorites, active indicator management and built-in explanatory guides.
  • Resizable subpanels, favorite indicators, crosshair and measuring tools.

See the full list

Drawings and alerts

  • Horizontal and vertical lines, trends, parallel channels, rectangles and annotations.
  • Anchored VWAP and volume profiles drawn over an area.
  • Long and short risk/reward tools; price alert lines.
  • Snapping, selection, visual settings, hiding and deleting drawings.
  • Undo and redo drawing edits.

What the indicators measure

Strate provides visualisations and measurements for your analysis. It does not promise autonomous signals, predictions or guaranteed results.

These tools describe market conditions. Icebergs are an inference and “stop hunting” is an interpretation of patterns; Strate cannot see hidden stops. The measures do not guarantee results.

Using replay

  • Select dates, time boundaries and speed; play, pause, step through and return to the start.
  • Rewind with data reconstruction and resume a session where you left off, paused.
  • Shared clock across views and indicators applied to data available at the replayed moment.

Rithmic or Databento replay

  • Databento MBO: local reconstruction from your .mbo.dbn.zst files, with order book depth for StrateDOM.
  • Rithmic: replay from the tick data of your Rithmic connection, with manual instrument selection. Trades are replayed, without order book depth.

Both sources share the same playback controls. Rithmic replay plays back trades: charts, footprint and volume profiles. Order book depth, and therefore StrateDOM and the order book tools, requires a Databento session.

Practicing in simulation

  • Local trade simulation and replay-linked logging.
  • Local paper mode and Rithmic/Apex trading connection, subject to license and account permissions.

Local simulation sends no orders to the market.

Placing an order from the chart

  • Account selection, traded contract and explicit arming of the trading panel.
  • Market, limit and stop orders; long and short risk/reward drawings with an associated ticket.
  • Entry, stop-loss and take-profit; planned protections visible on the chart before execution.
  • Order modification, moving active protections, cancellation, closing, reversing and flattening positions.

Protections and risk controls

  • Checks on size, exposure, order rate, daily loss, trading hours, prices and feed freshness.
  • Partial fill handling, SL/TP coordination and reconciliation after a disconnection or restart.

Protections are sent after entry fills and depend on the executor. These checks do not guarantee execution prices, prevent losses or guarantee protection while the application is stopped.

Managing or canceling your subscription

In your customer account, invoices are available through Stripe. The Early Adopter lifetime license has no monthly charges. For a monthly subscription, the Stripe portal lets you manage payment methods and cancellation.

The first 500 Early Adopter customers get a lifetime Strate license for a one-time payment of $199, with no monthly subscription.

Switching devices

Strate runs on one device at a time. When you sign in on a new device, Strate asks you to release the current one.

You can also sign out the active device from your customer account.

Before switching devices, close your positions and let Strate finish sending your protective orders.

I have a creator code. What is it for?

Enter it when you sign up to support the creator who introduced you to Strate. Your price stays the same.

Securing your account

Turn on two-step verification from the Security section of your customer account.

Strate will never ask for your Rithmic or Apex credentials by email, by message or on this website.
